Bipartisan Congressional Members Oppose Conflict Resolution in Syria

Nearly three-fourths of House and Senate members support continuing endless US war in Syria — despite no threat posed by its ruling authorities and allies against Western or regional countries. More on this below.

Military Keynesianism on steroids reflects official US policy, supported by both right wings of the nation's war party — what Pentagon commanders call the "long war," what I call forever war.

It's ongoing in multiple theaters with no end of it in prospect — at the expense of vital homeland needs and rights of ordinary people at home and abroad.

The vast majority of Americans are harmed by military Keynesianism, neoliberal harshness, monopoly capitalism, judicial unfairness, and draconian crackdowns on nonbelievers.

They target whistleblowers like Chelsea Manning, activists for peace, equity and justice like Venezuelan DC embassy protectors, and truth-telling journalists like Julian Assange — what police state rule is all about.

America's power elite control federal, state, and local governments, the courts, dominant information sources, the nation's money, and essential services — including healthcare, education, along with policies relating to the environment, the food we eat, and more. 

They control genetic code patents, basic human life elements commodified like toothpaste for profit-making. Powerful monied interests operate as private tyrannies, endangering everyone, eroding fundamental freedoms, seeking militarized ruler/serf societies worldwide.

As a private citizen after his presidency, Thomas Jefferson said: "I hope we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our monied corporations which dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength, and bid defiance to the laws of our country."

Andrew Jackson opposed chartering the first Bank of the United States, calling it "a hydra-headed monster," a 19th century version of today's Federal Reserve, giving Wall Street control over the nation's money, the supreme power over all others.

Lincoln reportedly called predatory monied interests "more despotic than a monarch, more insolent than autocracy, and more selfish than a bureaucracy." 

Former Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis once said: "We can have democracy in this country, or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of the few, but we can't have both." 

That's the state of America today, the gap between the nation's super-rich and its ordinary people at an unprecedented level.

Powerful monied interests run America. Presidents, Congress, and the courts serve their interests. The US is a fantasy democracy, not the real thing. Elections when held are farcical. Ordinary people have no say over how they're governed. 

Trump is the latest in a long line of US warrior presidents, escalating wars he inherited, perhaps intending one or more new ones on his watch.

In Yemen alone, he greatly increased US drone war on the country, ten-fold over what Bush/Cheney began in 2001, according to the Bureau of Investigative Journalism — six-fold over Obama's war, according to CENTCOM.

On DJT's watch, US forever wars rage in Afghanistan, Yemen, and Syria, along with involvement in Iraq (on the phony pretext of combatting ISIS the US supports), Libya, Somalia, Ukraine's Donbass region, and Israel's war on Palestinians without declaring it.

Discussing endless war in Syria weeks earlier, Russia's UN envoy Vassily Nebenzia said Idlib province remains a (US-supported) terrorist stronghold, al-Nusra jihadists controlling "almost 90%" of the area, adding:

"This status quo is not viable. If we only watch what is going on in Idlib, we will see (it's) a source of constant terrorist threat for Syria, its neighbors in the region and other States. It will not work out to pretend that Nusra militants all of a sudden have turned into moderate opposition."

Syria's liberation depends on eliminating this scourge, along with ending illegal US occupation of northern and southern Syrian territory. The same goes for Turkish forces, unlawfully operating cross-border in Syria, part of President Erdogan's aim to annex Syrian territory, especially its oil-rich areas.

Nebenzia slammed illegal US-led NATO sanctions on Syria, calling for their elimination, stressing how they aggravate humanitarian crisis conditions in much of the country.

Russia's efforts to restore peace and stability to the country through Geneva, Astana, and Sochi diplomacy are foiled by Washington's rage for endless war.

Like Obama, Trump regime hardliners reject resolution, wanting Syria transformed into a US vassal state, isolating Iran, seeking regime change, wanting the nation's sovereign independence eliminated, along with gaining control over its vast oil and gas resources.

On May 20, nearly 400 bipartisan House and Senate members urged Trump to continue endless war in Syria.

They called for "implement(ing) a comprehensive Syria strategy that addresses the security threats faced by the United States and its allies (sic)" — despite neither Damascus or Tehran threatening any countries, adding:

"The region has…been destabilized by Iran('s) threatening behavior (sic). In Syria, Iran is working to establish a permanent military presence that can threaten our allies (sic)."

"In the past year alone, an Iranian-armed drone infiltrated Israeli airspace (sic) and the IRGC fired dozens of missiles toward Israel from Syria (sic)." 

The above remarks turned truth on its head. So did comments about Russia's regional involvement, aiding the Syrian people combat the scourge of US-supported terrorists, not harming them as congressional members falsely claimed.

Nor is "Moscow…complicating Israel's ability to defend itself from hostile action emanating from Syria." No threat exists to Israel, the US, or other regional countries from Russia, Damascus, Tehran, or Hezbollah.

The letter called for assuring US support for "Israel's ability to defend itself" despite facing no threats except invented ones.

It urged (i)ncreae(d) pressure on Iran…Russia (and Hezbollah) with respect to activities in Syria," falsely calling their activities "destabilizing" ones. 

"(O)ur only choice is to advance policies that can stop the growing threats to US interests, Israel, and regional security and stability (sic)."

The above remarks and recommendations are all about wanting endless war in Syria continued, opposing Russian-led efforts to resolve it diplomatically.
