Media React to Pompeo's Sochi Visit

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Establishment media are militantly hostile to all US adversaries, notably Russia.

Reacting to Pompeo's Tuesday talks with Vladimir Putin and Sergey Lavrov in Sochi, the NYT said they "expose(d) deep fissures…"

Both countries "remain far far apart on Iran, election interference and a host of world crises…"

The Times and other Western media falsely blame Russia for dismal bilateral relations caused by Washington's hostile geopolitical agenda, its global war on humanity, its aim for transforming all sovereign independent nations into US vassal states.

Russia and China are prime targets, along with Iran, Venezuela, North Korea, Syria, Cuba, Nicaragua and other countries.

The Times: "The West…blames tensions with Russia on Moscow's attempts to destabilize its rivals (sic), undermine democracies and alliances (sic), and expand its influence," falsely implying by devious means at the expense of the US and its partners.

The above remarks describe how Washington operates worldwide, not Russia, seeking cooperative relations with other countries, not dominance over them.

The neocon/CIA-connected Washington Post said Pompeo and Putin "could only agree that many issues stand in the way" of improved relations, calling ties between both countries a "politically treacherous international relationship," adding:

Trump indicated he'll meet with Putin on the sidelines of the June 28-29 G20 summit in Osaka, Japan. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said a formal White House request hasn't yet been made.

DJT cancelled a scheduled meeting with Putin last December. WaPo quoted Russian international affairs analyst Fyodor Lukyanov, saying "in terms of (US) foreign policy, things just keep getting worse."

Separately, WaPo said the US and Russia "do not see eye to eye on several issues, including Venezuela, Iran, Syria, North Korea, Ukraine, arms control agreements, plus (nonexistent) Russian interference in elections in the United States and other countries."

Trump is co-opted by dark forces controlling him, why improved US relations with Russia and other sovereign independent countries remain unattainable. Sochi talks changed nothing.

The Wall Street Journal noted that "frictions remain" between the US and Russia. Both countries are world's apart on Iran, Venezuela, North Korea, Syria, Cuba, other countries, and arms control.

Ahead of Tuesday talks in Sochi, it was highly "unlikely" that they'd achieve "major progress," said the Journal. lt quoted Moscow Carnegie Center director Dmitry Trenin, saying:

"The US-Russian confrontation continues unabated. The conflict has deep roots." London-based Royal United Services Institute for Defense and Security Studies Russia research fellow Emily Ferris was quoted saying:

"Russia's strategy of sowing discord and encouraging divisions is likely to continue to drive up tensions with the West" — a bald-faced Big Lie the Journal didn't refute.

Pompeo's talks with Putin and Lavrov did nothing to improve dismal bilateral relations.

With rare exceptions proving the rule, diplomatic outreach by Russia and other sovereign independent countries to the US is an exercise in futility.

It accomplishes nothing toward changing US rage for global dominance — war and other hostile actions its favored strategies.
