When Is It OK to Topple a Sitting Government?

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Answer: When the US says so! Forget about international, constitutional and statute laws! Washington rules alone matter.

What it says goes, barking orders to the world community, pressuring and threatening them demanding its leaders salute and obey.

Governments unwilling to subordinate the sovereign rights of their nations and people to US interests are targeted for regime change - by naked aggression, color revolutions, or old-fashioned coups, the latter playing out in Venezuela, so far unsuccessfully.

No country in world history has unlawfully targeted more nations more times than the USA, seeking unchallenged global dominance by intimidation and brute force.

Operating like a global Mafia, it unjustifiably justifies might over right, glorifying war and other hostile actions against one country after another in the name of peace and democracy building - notions it abhors at home and abroad.

Media scoundrels go along, serving as imperial press agents, featuring mind manipulating managed news misinformation and disinformation, suppressing hard truths.

US policymakers call regime change tactics against other nations liberation, plunder called economic development, iron-fisted hardline rule called democracy - for the privileged few alone at the expense of most others left unexplained.

Sitting governments are toppled to free them, nations destroyed for the same reason. Washington's agenda involves smashing one country after another for their own good.

Free and open societies are tolerated nowhere, at home most of all. Mass slaughter, destruction and human misery are considered small prices to pay. Humanity's survival is threatened but who cares.

Militarism, belligerence, state terrorism, and colonizing other nations to control them is the American way. Patriotism means going along or else.

No nation in world history caused more harm to more people over a longer duration than the US. None more endanger the survival of life on earth - its annihilation threatened by nuclear immolation, ecocide or a combination of both.

US rage for unrestrained wealth and power may kill us all. "Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realize we cannot eat money" - according to a 19th century proverb.

Add to the above when the last nation has been smashed, when the last war has been waged, when planet earth has been transformed into a dystopian wasteland, billions killed, survivors enslaved, conquerors ruling over desolate remains.

On Sunday, the LA Times hauled out unindicted war criminal Roger Noriega, former 1980s co-conspirator with Elliott Abrams' scorched earth rage against Nicaraguans, Guatemalans, and Salvadorans, terrorizing them into submission - responsible for massacring hundreds of thousands of defenseless civilians to achieve their aims.

He's now a so-called fellow at the hawkish/neocon infested American Enterprise Institute. The LA Times gave him feature op-ed space to promote lawless regime change in Venezuela, saying:

Toppling Maduro is "a confrontation the Trump (regime) cannot afford to lose." A litany of beginning-to-end Big Lies followed.

Noriega: Maduro "is financing chaos and corruption throughout the Americas."

A bald-faced Big Lie! The US operates this way globally, not Venezuela.

Noriega: Venezuela's "civilian and military leaders are suspected of looting $300 billion in oil revenue."

Another bald-faced Big Lie. Corruption exists in virtually all countries, none more hugely corrupt than the US - countless trillions of dollars stolen by public and private officials at the expense of the general welfare and world peace.

Noriega: "Some 15 to 20 tons of cocaine are moving to the US from Venezuela every month, according to US officials, much of it controlled by Venezuelan government and military officials."

Another Big Lie! Illicit drugs are big business, the CIA heavily involved along with Western banks, laundering dirty money.

Venezuela under Chavez and Maduro has been heavily involved in combatting illicit drugs trafficking - one of many reasons why the US seeks regime change, wanting nothing interfering with the free flow of cocaine, heroin, and other drugs into America, other Western societies and elsewhere.

Noriega: "This organized-crime spree is destabilizing the region and fueling illegal migration, including at the US-Mexico border."

Criminality is orchestrated and supported by the US - headquarters for narco-trafficking.

Noriega's notion of the "democratic order in Venezuela" is eliminating it altogether, US-controlled tyranny replacing it, what he and likeminded extremists urge everywhere, wanting planet earth colonized for unrestrained plunder, nonbelievers eliminated.

The rest of his propaganda piece repeated other long ago debunked Big Lies. He barely stopped short of urging naked aggression to topple Maduro, maybe in a follow-up op-ed.

He and countless other likeminded extremists represent a scourge against peace, equity and justice, wanting it eliminated everywhere.

No responsible editors would touch his rage for extinguishing Venezuelan democratic governance. LA Times editors featured it to their shame.
