Trump Regime and Netanyahu Promote War on Iran

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Iran and Venezuela are in the US crosshairs for regime change, Israel allied with the Trump regime against the legitimate governments of both countries - especially the Islamic Republic, the Jewish state's main regional rival.

Is war on both countries coming if ongoing tactics fail? Don't bet against it. What's unthinkable may be the Trump regime's plan - against Venezuela perhaps by proxy extremists armed with US-supplied assault weapons, supported by covert or overt Pentagon special forces and/or airpower.

Maybe a staged false flag will unjustifiably justify US military intervention. They're a US tradition since the mid-19th century, 9/11 the mother of them all.

A similar scenario may play out against Iran or all-out US aggression, featuring terror-bombing of strategic targets, again perhaps following a false flag - time and again used by Washington to go to war.

Earlier US false flags provided pretexts for militarism, naked aggression, occupations, domestic repression, and invented national security threats because no real ones exist.

Along with the no-peace/Israeli-Palestinian peace process, the US global war on terror is the greatest hoax in modern times - a post-9/11 pretext for waging endless wars on humanity, including domestically by police state laws.

The US faced no foreign threats since WW II ended, none now. So they're invented, initially in June 1950 against North Korea, at all times subordinating rule of law principles to manufactured national security state priorities - in deference to Wall Street and the military, industrial, security, media complex.

Operating by Washington rules alone, Republicans and undemocratic Dems seek global hegemony over all other nations, their resources and populations - wanting all sovereign independent governments replaced by US-controlled puppet regimes.

That's what imperialism is all about. If a real or state-sponsored false flag attack occurs on US soil, so-called (annually renewed) "Continuity of Government (COG)" authority, if invoked, gives the president and DHS unprecedented police state powers to declare martial law without congressional approval - free from constitutional constrains.

It also lets the vice president assume dictatorial powers, rendering the executive powerless or removed from office if unwilling to go along with the diabolical scheme.

In 1988, Ronald Reagan's Executive Order 12656 authorized a COG response, including full-scale militarization in case of a "national security emergency," defined as:

"any occurrence, including natural disaster, military attack, technological or other emergency, that seriously degrades or seriously threatens the national security of the United States."

COG roots go back to the June 1947 National Security Act (as amended), merging the Departments of War and Navy into the National Military Establishment (NME), including a separate Department of the Air Force headed by a Secretary of Defense – in August 1949, NME renamed the Department of Defense.

The NSA also established the CIA, National Security Resources Board (NSRB), and National Security Council (NSC) to advise the president on domestic, foreign, and military policies at the onset of the Cold War.

The national security state defines US imperial policy, its aim for unchallenged global dominance - by naked aggression, color revolutions, political assassinations, and old-fashioned coups.

Russia, China, Iran, and Venezuela are US prime targets for regime change. Is staging a false flag on US soil an option under consideration, perhaps similar to 9/11, suspending the Constitution, declaring martial law, and going to war against one or more of the above countries, perhaps under COG authority, circumventing Trump if he's unwilling to go this far - despite no real threat to the nation's security.

On February 13 and 14, Mike Pompeo co-hosted an anti-Iran conference in Warsaw, Poland. The meeting had nothing to do with promoting "peace and security in the Middle East" as falsely claimed by the Trump regime.

It was all about plotting regime change in Tehran, wanting the Islamic Republic returned to US client state status - perhaps by naked aggression if ongoing sanctions war and other disruptive tactics fail.

Representing Israel in Warsaw, Netanyahu openly called for "war (on) Iran." Pompeo raged against regional threats, failing to explain the US, Israel, and their despotic Arab partners bear full responsibility for what's going on - not Iran, not Syria, not Hezbollah, or Hamas.

Mike Pence addressed the conference. Railing against "radical Islamic terrorism," he failed to explain the US created and supports ISIS, al-Qaeda, its al-Nusra offshoot in Syria, and likeminded groups.

He lied claiming the US is "fully committed to achieving a lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians" - polar opposite US policy since the Jewish state's creation.

He lied accusing Syria of using chemical weapons against its people, actions by US-supported terrorists alone.

He lied calling Iran "the greatest threat to peace and security in the Middle East" - the "distinction" applying to Israel, America's regional presence, and their imperial partners.

He lied about Hezbollah, Hamas, and Yemeni Houthis - falsely blaming them for fueling conflicts waged by the US, NATO, Israel, and their allies.

He repeated a long ago discredited further litany of Big Lies against Iran. Its Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi called the two-day conference a "total failure," adding:

"Despite Washington's extensive attempts to hold an all-inclusive summit and forge a new alliance against the Islamic Republic of Iran, the number of participants and their low levels of participation, coupled with their reluctance to support any anti-Iran decision…turned the final statement of the summit into a useless document."

"How can a conference titled 'Peace and Security in the Middle East' succeed when main regional players such as Iran, Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Palestine are not in attendance, and major countries such as China, Russia and many other European and non-European countries are either absent or" represented by low-level officials.

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini didn't attend, Brussels against the Trump regime's hostile actions toward Iran.

Opposition from the EU and many other conference participants forced Pompeo to backtrack from his initial announcement, saying the focus would be solely on Iran.

In their remarks, he and Pence slammed the EU for not going along with the US in renouncing the 2015 JCPOA nuclear deal.

Trump regime hardliners failed to achieve their objective in Warsaw - unable to establish an international alliance against Iran, clear from the conference's concluding statement.

US war by other means continues against Iran and Venezuela. The sovereign independence of both nations and rights of their people hang in the balance.
