War in Yemen Rages After Hollow US Call for Ceasefire

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Yemen is Washington's war, begun by Bush/Cheney in October 2001, raging with no prospect for resolution as long as US regimes want it continued endlessly.

The Saudis and UAE partnered with Washington's imperial agenda throughout the region - their terror-bombing done with US, UK, French, and other Western warplanes and munitions.

Ongoing conflicts are part of Washington's war OF terror, not on it, supporting the scourge of terrorism it pretends to oppose.

Mass slaughter and destruction reflect US-led strategy in all its wars of aggression, civilians mostly harmed - countless tens of thousands massacred in all US war theaters. Western media suppress what's vital to explain.

On Monday, US war secretary James Mattis' call for "finding a peaceful solution to the conflict in Yemen" ignored 17 years of endless US-orchestrated aggression.

There's no prospect for resolution because Republicans and undemocratic Dems reject the notion in all US war theaters.

Waging peace instead of war isn't what Washington's imperial agenda is all about. It's war on humanity for global dominance threatens everyone.

The Yemeni conflict is responsible for causing the world's gravest humanitarian crisis, countless numbers of civilians perishing daily, the horrendous toll suppressed by aggressor countries and major media supporting them.

The Saudis and UAE are serving US-led Western interests in Yemen and their own. Days after Mattis' hollow call for conflict resolution, Saudi warplanes terror-bombed Sanaa province, including residential neighborhoods in the Yemeni capital and surrounding areas, unknown numbers of civilians massacred.

SouthFront reported "more than 30 airstrikes" conducted in and around Yemen's capital. A Saudi/UAE statement lied, claiming strikes posed no risk to humanitarian efforts - turning truth on its head calling them "legitimate."

There's nothing lawful about naked aggression, what war in Yemen is all about, civilians in harm's way throughout the country.

Terror-bombing by both countries failed to achieve anything strategically important throughout the year.

Civilian deaths throughout years of war from terror-bombing, ground attacks, untreated diseases and starvation likely number in the hundreds of thousands.

UNESCO estimates over 50,000 children under age-five perished annually since March 2015. Western and regional media falsely claim around 10,000 in total.

On Thursday, even RT reported the fabricated number saying: "An estimated 10,000 people have been killed in the conflict" -  a bald-faced lie.

According to AMN News, "(t)housands of Saudi Coalition fighters are on their way to the Yemen's Hodeidah Governorate for what is expected to be their largest offensive of the year" against Houthi fighters - a protracted bloodbath likely to ensue, civilians harmed most.

Yemen's port city of Hodeidah is the country's key humanitarian lifeline. US-led NATO, the Saudis and UAE want it cut off, the lives and welfare of the country's 28 million people at stake if they succeed.

Losing the city to aggressors could be catastrophic, the objective so far not achieved.

On Thursday, Sergey Lavrov met with Khaled al-Yamani, illegitimate foreign minister for US-appointed puppet president Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi.

A joint statement said "(t)he foreign ministers called for finding an early solution to the long-standing military and political crisis Yemen has been going through" - an objective Hadi and his US-led Western and Saudi backers reject.

The same day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Moscow seeks diplomatic conflict resolution in Yemen, adding:

"(A)s member of the UN Security Council and an active player on the global arena, Russia is dealing with this problem and is ready to render every possible assistance for" restoring peace and stability to the country.

Severe humanitarian crisis conditions in the country can't be overstated. If US-led NATO supported war and blockade continue endlessly, millions of Yemenis could perish.
