US Demonizes Nations Targeted for Regime Change

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman

Washington wants all sovereign independent nations unwilling to bend to its will targeted for regime change.

Its wars of aggression, color revolutions, other coups, political assassinations, and economic/financial wars transformed targeted regions into cesspools of tyranny.

Whenever Washington demonizes nations, efforts to transform them into US vassal states follow.

In his first State of the Union address in January 2002, GW Bush called Iraq, Iran and North Korea an "axis of evil."

He rallied public support for his regime's global war on terror - featuring what became endless wars of aggression in multiple countries, still raging with no prospects for resolution.

On Thursday, John Bolton signaled increased Trump regime effort to isolate Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, calling them a "Troika of Tyranny," turning truth on its head, saying:

"In Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua, we see the perils of poisonous ideologies left unchecked, and the dangers of domination and suppression," adding:

"The Troika of Tyranny in this Hemisphere — Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua — has finally met its match."

A Trump executive order illegally sanctioned Venezuelan gold exports, Bolton saying "(t)he  intent of going after the gold sector is to target those who are operating corruptly within the Venezuelan government, not those who are operating legitimately."

It's hard imagining anyone accepting remarks like this as legitimate, Bolton adding the Trump regime's priority is "to really unmask and tell the untold story about the very real and factual story of Cuban involvement in Venezuela."

From the inception of Venezuela's Bolivarian democracy, relations with Cuba were embraced, both nations aiding each other politically and economically - including against US dark forces, wanting fascist tyranny replacing their sovereign independence.

There's nothing illegitimate or sinister about their relations, an important alliance - polar opposite how Washington seeks dominance over all other nations, forcefully if other methods fail.

It wants sovereign rule in Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua  replaced by pro-Western puppet regimes if controls.

In June 2017, Trump's National Security Presidential Memorandum NSPM-5, titled "Strengthening the Policy of the United States Toward Cuba," imposed illegal sanctions on the country.

Bolton added "over two dozen additional entities owned or controlled by the Cuban military and intelligence services to the restricted list of entities with which financial transactions by US persons are prohibited."

Stopping short of closing the US embassy in Havana, he slammed Obama, saying "(m)embers of this administration will never take a picture in front of Che Guevara, plastered over the Cuban ministry that runs the National Revolutionary Police."

He lied adding "this organization is responsible for oppressing dissidents and suppressing every kind of freedom known to man."

Cuba is a free and open society. So are Venezuela and Nicaragua - polar opposite how the US is governed, waging war on humanity at home and abroad, eroding fundamental freedoms, heading toward eliminating them altogether.

Neocon hardliners Bolton and Pompeo restructured Trump regime policies toward Mexico, Central and Latin America.

Bolton turned truth on its head, calling leaders of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua "tyrants…strongmen…clownish, pitiful figures more akin to Larry, Curly, and Moe."

"The three stooges of socialism are true believers, but they worship a false god. The United States looks forward to watching each corner of the triangle fall: in Havana, in Caracas, in Managua."

He promised more aggressive US actions against these countries and their leadership. It remains to be seen what policy initiatives follow.

Washington under Republicans and undemocratic Dems deplore democracy at home and abroad.

They support a rogue's gallery of tinpot despots globally - notably the Saudis, other Gulf state dictatorships, Egypt's strongman el-Sisi, Israeli regimes, and Brazil's hard-right president-elect Bolsonaro, their newest Latin American favorite.

A Final Comment

For the 27th time on Thursday, UN General Assembly members voted overwhelmingly to end the US economic and financial embargo on Cuba - 189 nations in favor. Two opposed - the US and Israel.
