US Imperial Aims in Syria

Obama and now Trump came to Syria to stay, permanent occupation of parts of the country planned.

Endless US aggression is all about regime change, gaining another imperial trophy, looting Syria's resources, and partitioning it for easier control - a similar strategy pursued in all its war theaters.

Last February, Sergey Lavrov accused Washington of trying "to create a quasi-state" in Kurdish-held northern Syria - despite claiming it recognizes the country's territorial integrity.

It's pursuing "dangerous, unilateral steps," rejecting diplomatic conflict resolution.

"We've raised these questions multiple times, but have not received a coherent answer besides a general motto 'Don't' worry we're for the territorial integrity of Syria.' In reality, it looks otherwise," said Lavrov, adding:

"Autonomous, independent from Damascus governing bodies are being created in this territory. Money keeps flowing there to keep them functional. Law enforcement created there is receiving (heavy) weaponry."

Unanimously adopted Security Council Resolution 2254 (December 2015) called for ceasefire and diplomatic conflict resolution.

It proved as empty and ineffective as other attempts before and since to end years of fighting. Washington under Republicans and undemocratic Dems repeatedly breaches international agreements conflicting with its imperial aims.

US aggression in Syria rages in its eighth year, resolution unattainable as long as Washington rejects it - no matter how much territory Syrian forces regained control over.

US-led NATO forces illegally occupy northeast and southwest territory in the country, intending to remain indefinitely - Turkish troops there as well with no intention of leaving. 

President Erdogan wants northern Syrian and Iraqi territory bordering Turkey annexed, seeking control over their oil fields.

ISIS, al-Nusra, and other heavily armed terrorists are down but far from out, tens of thousands remaining, mainly in Idlib province, liberating it on hold following what Russia and Turkey agreed on.

On Friday, Lavrov again said Washington aims to create a quasi-Kurdish northern Syrian state on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River, adding Idlib's liberation won't end years of war.

It'll "only end when the Syrian people are back in control of Syria and when everyone involved, especially those who came there uninvited, leave," he stressed.

"There are large territories east of Euphrates where absolutely unacceptable things happen. The United States is trying to create a quasi-state there with the help of their allies, mostly Kurds."

"The US is trying to keep the situation heated up in the region to ensure that everyone is on the edge. It's easier for them to catch fish in the water they muddy. Such policies never end well."

Despite militant US hostility toward Russia, Putin and Lavrov continue calling Washington its "partner." 

Under Republicans and undemocratic Dems, it's Moscow's mortal enemy, wanting pro-Western puppet rule replacing its sovereign independence by whatever it takes to achieve its objective.

As long as US imperial aims remain unchanged, both countries will never be allies. Believing otherwise is foolhardy.

Hegemons are unbending, wanting everything their own way, offering nothing in return but empty promises to be broken.

It's how the US operates everywhere, why it can never be trusted. As long as Russia remains sovereign and independent, it'll be Washington's top enemy, along with China.
