Israeli Imperial Arrogance

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Zionist ideologues, religious fundamentalists, and warmongering fascists run Israel.

Ruling authorities and dominant Knesset members are the most extremist in Israeli history.

Last month, the Netanyahu regime usurped the rule of law, its standard practice, claiming "the Knesset (may) legislate laws everywhere in the world," adding:

It can "violate the sovereignty of foreign countries (and) ignore the directives of international law in any field it desires" - the shocking remarks written to Israel's Supreme Court in August responded to a petition against the Settlement Regularization Law filed by Adalah: The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel, Jerusalem Legal Aid and Human Rights Center (JLAC), and Al Mezan Center for Human Rights (Gaza) on behalf of 17 local Palestinian authorities in the West Bank.

The Ziofascist law mocks what rule of law principles are supposed to be all about. It authorizes expropriation of privately owned Palestinian West Bank and East Jerusalem land to facilitate illegal settlement construction.

Critics call the measure the Expropriation Law. Israel's attorney general opposed it, calling it illegal, a flagrant violation of international law.

It's another way to ethnically cleanse unwanted Palestinians from the West Bank and East Jerusalem, depriving them of their property and other fundamental rights.

According to Adalah et al, the Knesset may not enact or impose laws pertaining to illegally occupied territory. Nor can it annex privately owned land belonging to Palestinians or anyone else.

Adalah attorneys Suhad Bishara and Myssana Morany said the following in response to private Israeli attorney Arnon Harel, representing the Netanyahu regime, arguing for what's indisputably unlawful, saying:

"The Israeli government's extremist response has no parallel anywhere in the world. It stands in gross violation of international law and of the United Nations Charter which obligates member states to refrain from threatening or using force against the territorial integrity of other states – including occupied territories."

"The Israeli government's extremist position is, in fact, a declaration of its intention to proceed with its annexation of the West Bank (including East Jerusalem)."

Land theft is flagrantly illegal, an Israeli specialty, getting away with it for 70 years because the world community has done nothing to challenge its ruling regimes.

Enacted early last year, the Settlement Regularization Law retroactively authorized the theft of settler occupied/privately owned Palestinian land.

The measure is prelude to annexing all West Bank territory (including East Jerusalem) Israel wants for exclusively Jewish development and use - what's been ongoing since the 1947-48 Nakba.

It'll continue until ethnic cleansing is completed, along with attempts to steal bordering Lebanese and Syrian territory Israel wants for its own use.

Israel's High Court most often approves deplorable actions legitimate tribunals wouldn't tolerate anywhere.

Its justices virtually never rule against the theft of Palestinian land for exclusive Jewish development and use.

Most important is the US/Israeli special relationship. As long as Washington goes along with its policies, virtually always the case, what the rest of the world community feels and states doesn't matter.
