US Midterm Elections Threatened by Russian Meddling?

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

The US intelligence community-created Big Lie persists, refusing to die, kept alive by media scoundrels, failing to expose it.

The neocon/CIA house organ Washington Post continued anti-Russia hysteria, shamefully claiming US authorities are "running out of time to deter" the country, saying:

"Neither the Trump administration nor Congress has done enough to deter Russia and other hostile foreign powers from interfering in the US democratic process."

"That is despite the Kremlin's clear record of meddling in the 2016 presidential election, and despite consistent warnings from intelligence professionals and other experts that Russian President Vladimir Putin intends to continue his influence campaigns."

"Too much of the conversation has so far focused on defending the nation from attacks with better cybersecurity and election technologies."

"That is needed. But a more potent strategy would convince Mr. Putin and others that the consequences of even trying to penetrate American defenses are too grave to risk."

Fact: The above rubbish sounds like something out of Joseph Goebbels' playbook, only mind-manipulated readers and brainwashed others believing what's indisputably false - along with repeating the steady trumped up drumbeat of anti-Russian hysteria.

Fact: US monied interests and their political minions alone are responsible for manipulating America's political process - assuring dirty business as usual wins every time, pretending tyranny is democratic governance.

Not a shred of evidence suggests Russian or other foreign meddling in America's political process. Yet the Big Lie otherwise persists.

The so-called DETER (Defending Elections from Threats by Establishing Redlines), Act (S. 2785) supported by hardline Republicans and undemocratic Dems, aims to prevent nonexistent Russian and other foreign interference in US elections.

According to WaPo, congressional Russophobes want tougher (illegal) sanctions against the Russian Federation, notably targeting its energy and financial sectors, mandating Trump impose them, along with other tough measures.

WaPo urged imposing them "sooner rather than later," ludicrously claiming "there is little time for deterrence before November's vote," adding:

"The message from now through 2020 must be clear and consistent."

Russia bashing has nothing to do with electoral interference, everything to do with the country's sovereign independence, opposition to US wars of aggression, and defeating its attempt to gain a Syrian imperial trophy.

Putin and Russia's Defense Ministry triumphed over US imperial aims in Syria, humiliating the Obama and Trump regimes, defeating their dirty game in country, obstructive their destructive regional agenda.

Will bipartisan neocon hardliners risk WW III to try regaining the advantage over Russia and all other countries?

Are they crazy enough to pursue what no sensible leaders would dare try?
