Israel's Undeclared War on Syria

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Israeli June 1967 naked aggression on Syria never ended. An undeclared state of war against Damascus exists - in cahoots with Washington wanting its legitimate government toppled.

Throughout its history, Israel was an aggressor state, beginning with its 1947-48 self-styled war of independence, the Nakba (catastrophe) for Palestinians, stealing 78% of their historic homeland, taking the rest in June 1967 - both wars of aggression two of history's great crimes.

They involved indiscriminate cold-blooded mass murder, targeted assassinations, destruction of entire communities, civilians harmed most, atrocities Israel wants expunged from official accounts of what happened in both wars, the highest of high crimes it committed.

The goal of both wars was to replace indigenous Palestinians with Jews, ethnically cleansing unwanted people for favored ones.

Israel's first prime minister David Ben-Gurion set the tone for what followed, wanting a Jewish state created by brute force with minimal numbers of Arabs remaining in it, the human toll of no consequence.

"Every attack has to end with occupation, destruction and expulsion," said Ben-Gurion, meaning elimination of maximum numbers of Palestinians in cities, towns and villages attacked, replacing them with Jewish communities.

Israel faced no threat in 1948 or 1967. In 1982, Israeli PM Menachem Begin said "(w)e must be honest with ourselves. We decided to attack" nonthreatening Arab states.

In 1978, General Mordechai Hod, Israeli Air Force commander during the Six-Day War, said "16 years of planning had gone into those initial eighty minutes. We lived with the plan. We slept on the plan. We ate the plan.  Constantly we perfected it."

In 1972, IDF chief of staff General Haim Barlev said "(w)e were not threatened with genocide on the eve of the six-day war, and we had never thought of such a possibility."

Other Israeli officials also explained that no foreign threat to the country existed. At the time, PM Levi Eshkol lied claiming otherwise.

Israeli naked aggression in June 1967 was all about stealing Palestinian land not taken in 1948, along with Jerusalem as its exclusive capital.

Archival material reveals horrific Israeli high crimes committed throughout its history, continuing today, wanting Israel for Jews alone, along with land seized from neighboring states - why Israel is the only nation without declared borders.

Retired Syrian Major General Yahya Suleiman denounced repeated Israeli terror-bombing of sites in his country, fearing it's about to escalate once the ground offensive to liberate Idlib province begins, saying:

"Every time the (Syrian) army prepares an operation against armed (terrorist) groups, Israel attacks. The last time this took place was ahead of the army's offensive in the country's south."

Claiming an Iranian presence near Israel's border is a phony pretext for Israeli aggression, Suleiman stressed, adding:

"Based on the information at my disposal and using simple logic, I am telling you that there are no Iranian military forces on the territory of the Syrian Republic, only unarmed military advisers."

"This is normal practice, given the cooperation agreements which exist between our two countries. The Iranians are not fighting in Syria. They are helping us."

"If there were Iranian military units in Syria, we would have declared this to be the case. After all, there is nothing objectionable about this."

Israeli and US claims otherwise are bald-faced lies. On September 4, an IDF statement turned truth on its head, claiming despite over 200 airstrikes on Syrian targets in the last 18 months, "Iranian bases and command centers (remain) inside the Syrian military network," adding:

Others are near Russia's Khmeimim airbase and in Iraqi territory bordering Syria. These and similar remarks are pretexts for continued Israeli naked aggression on Syrian sites - likely to intensify once ground operations begin to liberate Idlib province.

A Final Comment

According to AMN News on Friday, Russian and Syrian aerial operations "unleashed a massive assault across the northwestern region of Syria this morning," adding:

"Led by their Sukhoi jets, the Russian and Syrian air forces heavily targeted areas controlled by the jihadist rebels in the Hama and Idlib provinces…concentrat(ing) their efforts on the Turkestan Islamic Party's bases and trenches" near Turkey's border.

Bombing terrorists in Idlib has been ongoing since early in the week, continuing ahead Syrian ground forces in position to launch a major liberating offensive when ordered - likely coming very soon.
