Iran Responds to Trump's Hostile Tweet

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

On assuming office, Trump sold whatever soul he had, if any. He surrounded himself with hawkish generals, neocon extremists, Wall Street predators and fellow billionaires.

America's latest warrior president deplores peace and stability, continuing naked aggression in multiple theaters he inherited, showing no signs of ending them.

Iran his next target? Would he dare biting off more than perhaps he's able to chew. The Islamic Republic is no pushover. It's much more powerful militarily than weaker nations America hasn't been able to defeat.

Responding to President Hassan Rouhani saying Iran "will not accept threats," warning not to "twist the lion's tail," Trump raged like he craves more war than already, threatening Iran with "CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE" - in caps for emphasis.

Iran's IRGC's Quds Force commander General Ghasem Soleimani rebuked him sharply, saying "we are closer to you than you think," adding:

"When he talks with European countries, China, Russia or Korea, one feels like it is a gambler talking, and this means demeaning a nation's dignity."

"What could you have done to Iran" that hasn't already been done by your ruling authorities for nearly 40 years.

"We are ready" if you dare attack. "(W)ar would mean the destruction of all of your resources. You might start the war, but we would be the ones ending it."

"Ask your then commander about whom he sent to me to beg for coverage for the American troops against the attacks of Iraq's Mujahideen Army until they could leave the country. Have you forgotten that you used to get adult diapers for your soldiers operating US tanks?"

"Now you are threatening the great country of Iran? On what background are you exactly basing your threats?"

Washington's endless wars of aggression accomplished nothing but mass slaughter and destruction, nothing benefitting the US or its people, nothing but revealing America's ugly face, making enemies, not allies.

"It is beneath the dignity of our president to respond to you. I, as a soldier, respond to you," Soleimani added.

Whatever "grandeur" America may have had long ago hasn't existed for decades, surely not post-9/11.

Trump disgraced himself by surrendering to America's deep state, its war-mongering extremists, its congressional criminal class, its corporate crooks.

Pulling out of the JCPOA was an act that will live in infamy. So is one-sidedly supporting Israel, partnering in its high crimes, disdaining the rights of ordinary people at home and abroad.

Washington can never be trusted under Republicans or undemocratic Dems, serving powerful interests at the expense of ordinary ones it deplores.

Separately, Iran is growing frustrated by Brussels' failure to affirm its support for the JCPOA in deeds, not meaningless rhetoric - likely heading toward surrendering to Washington on this and other important issues, affirming the continent's colonial status.

On Wednesday, Iranian Parliament Speaker Larijani said his country can't count on achieving positive resolution from ongoing talks with Brussels to save the JCPOA following Trump's disgraceful May 8 pullout.

Talks remain ongoing. Tehran justifiably demands more than unfulfilled promises. The JCPOA's fate hangs in the balance.

The Trump regime's rage against the Islamic Republic risks another potentially catastrophic war.
