Overcharged: Why Americans Pay Too Much for Health Care - Conference @ CATO...

Written by Subject: Healthcare Industry

From Michael F. Cannon,  Director of Health Policy Studies @ The Cato Institute

Something I have been looking forward to for years is finally happening this week.

Have a look at this two-minute video about North Carolina resident Eric Ferguson. People like Eric are why the Cato Institute is publishing Overcharged: Why Americans Pay Too Much for Health Care.

Overcharged has already received acclaim from experts, commentators, and business leaders in the United States and abroad. "Overcharged is just what the doctor ordered," writes former Harvard Medical School dean Jeff Flier. "We will be better off if it is widely read and discussed."

This Friday from 9am-1pm EDT, the Cato Institute is holding a conference to release Overcharged, to explore what is happening to Eric Ferguson and millions of Americans like him, and to discuss what policymakers should do about it. Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services Eric D. Hargan will deliver the keynote address. Other speakers include:

David A. Hyman, Coauthor, Overcharged; Professor of Law, Georgetown University; Adjunct Scholar, Cato Institute; Andy Slavitt, Chairman, United States of Care; Former Acting Administrator, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; Gail Wilensky, Senior Fellow, Project HOPE; Former Administrator, Health Care Financing Administration; Elisabeth Rosenthal, Editor-in-Chief, Kaiser Health News; Author, An American Sickness; Charlie Silver, Coauthor, Overcharged; Professor of Law, University of Texas-Austin School of Law; John E. McDonough, Professor of Public Health Practice, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health; Megan McArdle, Columnist, Washington Post.
