The UN Stinks of Sulfur With Trump's Presence

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez always expressed his views candidly on vital issues, a hallmark of his governing style.

He once said "(t)he grand destroyer of the world, and the greatest threat...is represented by US imperialism."

"Let the dogs of the empire bark. That's their job. Ours is to battle to achieve the true liberation of our people."

He called George Bush a "donkey." "Mr. Danger. 

A "coward." An "assassin." A "genocid(ist)," a "drunk," a "sick man, a psychologically ill man."

He condemned Israel's "holocaust" against the Palestinian people, called Tony Blair "an imperialist pawn," expressed solidarity with Syrian President Assad, called Obama an imperial "clown."

He said Gaddafi "will be remembered as a great fighter, a revolutionary and martyr. They assassinated him. It is another outrage."

He called on Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to resign, saying "(i)t's the least you can do. Resign, along with those other spies and delinquents working in the State Department."

In his memorable 2006 UN address, he called Bush the "Devil. The Devil is right here at home. The Devil, the Devil himself, is right in the house."

"And the Devil came here yesterday...Right here. And it smells of sulphur still today."

He "came here talking as if he owned the world. Truly. As the owner of the world."

On Monday, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza delivered a stirring address before UN General Assembly members, repeating Chavez's memorable comment, saying the podium still "stinks of sulfur" because of Trump's presence days earlier, his speech one of the most deplorable ones in UN history, sounding like the ravings of a madman, angering other member states wanting peace, not war.

His demeanor resembled a world emperor with "dictatorial powers," said Arreaza, making aggressive "unilateral threats," mocking the UN's Charter.

It's "been profaned, disrespected and offended over and over again by arrogant powers who intend to impose unilateral rules" on others, none more aggressively than Washington, Trump a rogue leader like the Clintons, Bush/Cheney and Obama.

Arreaza compared Trump to Joe McCarthy and Obama, he and his predecessor differing only in style, pursuing the same destructive objectives. He called Trump's planned border wall "political terrorism."

His country will continue championing Bolivarian social democracy regardless of his attempts to destroy it, devoting over two-thirds of Venezuela's wealth to social programs - nothing for militarism and warmaking.

He called the General Assembly a "home of peace," its podium a sacred place for supporting global understanding and equality. 

Venezuela respects the sovereign rights of all other nations. It's prepared to defend its own "in any way," he stressed.

He condemned illegal, unilateral US sanctions on Russia and Iran, denounced the criminal blockade of Cuba, urged dialogue to avoid war on the Korean peninsula, and rejected Washington claiming his country doesn't belong on the UN Human Rights Council.

America, other NATO belligerents, Israel, Saudi Arabia and their rogue allies should be denied membership, the world's leading human rights abusers.

Separately, Venezuela's government condemned Trump's travel ban, targeting its officials and family members, banning their travel to America, saying:

"These types of lists are incompatible with international law and constitute in themselves a form of psychological and political terrorism."

They're "hostile actions," aiming to "stigmatize" Venezuela on the phony pretext of "combating terrorism" Washington supports.

Trump wants Venezuelans "punished for their peaceful aspirations, as well as for their tolerance and respect for different religions and beliefs that are professed freely and harmoniously in our country."

Venezuela "repudiates the imperialist conduct of the US government, unilateral(ly) (imposing) "coercive measures that deliberately ignore international laws regulating friendly relations and cooperation between nation states."
