Israel Attacks Women's Boat to Gaza

by Stephen Lendman

Illegally interdicted in international waters, an act of high-seas piracy, Israel kidnapped 13 courageous women aboard the Zaytouna-Oliva, their symbolic attempt to break its lawless Gaza siege sabotaged.

They included Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mairead Maguire (Ireland), Marama Davidson (New Zealand), Jeannette Escanilla (Sweden), Samira Douaifia (Algeria), Leigh-Ann Naidoo (South Africa), Madeleine Habib (Australia), retired US colonel/diplomat Ann Wright, Hoda Rakhme (Russia), Fauziah Hasan (Malaysia), Mina Harballou (UK), Sarah Barrilaro (Spain), Synne Sofie Reksten (Norway), and Emma Ringqvist (Sweden).

They were taken to the Israeli port of Ashdod, to be held under harsh conditions for whatever period of time Israel chooses, then deported.

Around 70 nautical miles from Gaza, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition released a statement, urging "governments, public officials and people of conscience to support publicly the right of unimpeded passage for peaceful civilian navigation, and the physical integrity of the crew and participants on board, and to support full freedom of movement for all peoples, in particular the Palestinians of Gaza."

In early August, world popular committee for the support of Gaza head Issam Yusif said the mission would highlight Palestine's self-determination struggle, Israeli occupation harshness, the plight of besieged Gazans, and Israel's systematic international law breaches.

In May 2010, Israeli commandos attacked and murdered 10 Turkish human rights activists aboard the Mavi Marmara humanitarian ship to Gaza.

Despite International Criminal Court (ICC) war crimes charges filed, no one was held accountable for high-seas piracy and cold-blooded murder.

Throughout its sordid history, Israel committed genocidal high crimes of war and against humanity with impunity - because the world community endorses its ruthlessness.
