Phony US Claims of Russian Troops Provocatively Massed on Ukraine's Border

by Stephen Lendman

Big Lies repeated enough get most people to believe them. That's how propaganda works - disinformation drowning out hard truths.

Ever since Washington replaced Ukraine's democratically elected government in February 2014 with Nazi-infested putschists, Russia was irresponsibly accused invading its territory, threatening its other neighbors and having revanchist aims - none of it true, no credible evidence supporting phony claims.

They keep coming. Media scoundrels disgracefully repeat them. US-dominated NATO has thousands of combat troops deployed near Russia's border. Its warships patrol near its waters. Its warplanes fly provocatively close to its airspace. Its large-scale military exercises show it wants war, not peace.

Russia's aims are polar opposite. US hostility forces it to act defensively. In January, it announced the formation of three new army divisions to reinforce its western border - aimed at countering NATO's aggressive buildup.

At the time, Defense Secretary Sergey Shoigu explained what he called "such a critical task which is the formation of three divisions in the western theater."

In Russia's yearend 2015 military doctrine, Putin said a (US-led) Western national security threat requires an appropriate response.

Voice of America (VOA) is part of Washington's global propaganda apparatus, a misinformation dispensing agency, truth and full disclosure off-limits.

On August 4, it headlined "Russian Troop Buildup Along Ukraine Border Raises War Fears," suggesting it "may be considering an overt military campaign against its southwestern neighbor."

Fact: Post-Soviet Russia never invaded, attacked, occupied or otherwise threatened the territory of another country.

Fact: America does it all the time - always at war, now in multiple theaters, threatening other countries worldwide, its belligerence risking nuclear conflict, vital to highlight on the 71st anniversary of gratuitously nuking Hiroshima at a time Japan was negotiating surrender.

Fact: Russian military forces are almost entirely based within its borders, small numbers elsewhere, including warplanes and supportive ground personnel combating terrorism in Syria at the request of its democratically elected government.

Fact: America's empire of bases extends belligerently worldwide - launching pads for endless wars and provocations.

Fact: Russia has no revanchist aims. America wants dominion over planet earth, premeditated aggressive war its main strategy of choice, supplemented by color revolutions to install puppet regimes it controls.

Claims about Moscow being "aggressive and unpredictable," as VOA put it, reflect longstanding US anti-Russian hostility. Plans call for regime change.

Nuclear war remains an unthinkable possibility, especially if Hillary succeeds Obama, a lunatic fringe neocon threatening world peace.

False accusations about nonexistent "Russian aggression" conceal Washington's frightening aims - world conquest and dominance by whatever means it takes.
