13 Comments in Response to Please remember to fly your American Flag Proudly tomorrow 9-11
[S]he [America] goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own.
--- President John Quincy Adams, July 4, 1821
There must be sedulously maintained the strong arm of authority, to repress disturbance and to overcome all obstacles to the bestowal of the blessings of good and stable government upon the people of the Philippine Islands under the free flag of the United States.
--- President William McKinley, December 21, 1898
Some time between these two presidents the attitudes of our forbearers toward the rest of the world changed. On the eight anniversary of 9-1-1, it is disrespectful to the memory of those who died to remain in denial as to the reasons why this tragedy happened in the first place.
If everyone who saw me fly a flag considered it an expression of my love of liberty and for the people of this country, then I would "proudly" fly the flag. Unfortunately, it has most often in the past been used as an expression of support for the military aggressions of the US empire, and flying it now will most often be interpreted in the same way.
hahahaha LMAO brock :)
More reasons to Proudly fly your American Flag tomorrow... You still have the right to bear arms! In China you would be hauled in for some of the things we are able to say and do!
Countries are slave farms and flags are one of the many unscrupulous tools used by statists. Hooray and wave a piece of fabric with graphics on it because?... by happen chance I was born on this location of the planet enslaved by this government which identifies itself with this graphic logo? We are all taught to be "patriotic" to "our country" and that we are "free" because of what these guys or those guys did. Well I'm not free, I never have been and I probably never will be. Since the day I was born I have been a slave just like the rest of the people who live in the United States. What is "our country" anyway? It's a plot of land on what we call a planet. It has imaginary borders and for some reason if you weren't born within them you have no right to see, visit, or live on the land within them. And the same goes for the rest of the planet. Whichever declared "borders" you were not born within you have no inherent right to what lies within them either. So basically the planet earth consists of many different people/slave farms who are controlled by people (who call themselves government) which have all established their strongholds and geographic locations. And because I was born on this one I should be proud of that and wave the appointed flag?
I am thankful to have been born in the United States. But for no reason other than it could be worse somewhere else. My opinion on the founding fathers is of complete ambivalence. We all know and revere the great things they did but why do we willfully make up excuses for or simply outright ignore/deny the horrendous things they did? And how can we quote them, look up to them, and pride them when we know about those things?
I
Do you think Ron Paul hates America as much as you seem to?
Don't give me that "if it were not for the fact that Americans have served to protect your rights you would not be free to express them here" because it simply is not true.
I do not have freedoms because the U.S. government invaded Iraq, twice. I do not have freemdom because the U.S. government invaded and killed thousands of innocent people in Panama or Granada. I do not have the freedoms that I have because the U.S. sent killers to Viet Nam or Korea, etc, etc. In fact, each one of those wars left us with less, not more freedom. Each one of those wars saddled us with more taxes and laws than prior to the war.
Love of freedom and country is not the same thing as love of war and destruction.
Ring - Salivate - Repeat
The American Flag does not represent the government. It represents the people joining together for freedom. It represents the beauty of our country. It represents the removal of Tyranny. It represents the fact that you still have recourse even though that is increasingly becoming scarce. It represents what is Good about America and count your Blessings if it were not for the fact that Americans have served to protect your rights you would not be free to express them here.
Must every holiday and day of any significance be turned into a show of nationalist eroticism?
I do love my country and I do fear the government, so why should I fly the flag of the government?
No Mr. Gamill it does not and I definitely do not mean fly it upside down. The American Flag is a symbol of our Freedom. There are those who would choose to associate it with other issues. While I may not approve of the actions of some of our Legistraitors you can fear your government but that is little reason to destroy the vision of Freedom that our forefathers had. I am Proud to be an American.
I think she means fly the flag upside down....hahahahah
Didn't Obama just give this speech to school kids everywhere? And isn't this patriotism what got us into this Iraq mess in the first place? Indeed, doesn't this patriotism feed into the hands of those who created the motive of those who have been accused of being behind 9-11? And doesn't the flag now represent the very institution that is responsible for 9-11?
